The City of Holmes Beach is located in the middle of Anna Maria Island. Holmes Beach is the largest of the three cities and has a wonderful mix of residential, shopping, business and restaurants to suit every taste and palate. Start with a casual breakfast at Peaches Restaurant, a beach burger and beer at Mr. Bones BBQ and end the day with a gourmet sunset meal at the award winning Beach Bistro, the choices are endless and you’re sure to enjoy any of the great selections and cuisines. Don’t forget to stop by the Anna Maria Beach Café at the Manatee County Public Beach!
Sugar sand beaches frame the beautiful azure waters of the Gulf of Mexico that is the western border of this centerpiece island city. Fishing, tennis, boating, biking, birding, beach walking, paddle boarding or just plain relaxing tops the list of year round activities in this island town. The City Hall Complex has several ball fields, a modern skateboard park and nearby public tennis courts. Visit the Butterfly Park for a quiet afternoon.
There are two boats ramps and several marinas for your boating and fishing needs, with rental boats, day cruises, fishing excursions, and guides to help you explore the many waterways surrounding the island.
Holmes Beach Public Library is located at 5701 Marina Drive, just north of the City Hall. They offer pubic access to computers, books, magazines, and newspapers as well as many lectures and special exhibitions to entertain and inform islanders and guests of all ages. Getting around Holmes Beach can be as much fun as anything, choose from Segway to skateboard, bicycle to scooter, beach style golf carts or just strolling around. Part of the fun is just getting there. Don’t forget to hop on the free Anna Maria island trolley!
Holmes Beach offers countless shopping opportunities for the beach bound bargain hunter. There are great island crafts, beach novelties and souvenir shops, shell shops and casual island wear.
Wonderful art galleries are scattered all over the island and are worth a visit. Two must sees are the Artists’ Guild Gallery and the Island Art League.
Of course, the beaches are unparalleled. Emerald green waters, vibrant sunsets and white sand. Come and unwind, refresh and restore your soul! Although Holmes Beach has continued to grow by leaps and bounds over the years since, it has maintained its “Old Florida” charm. No fast food restaurants or chain stores – just laid back and friendly residents to greet you!
